Throat lozenges

With the arrival of winter comes cold and flu season! And most often it is the throat that starts to hurt. Of course, there are many different medications like Strepsils, etc. But since all these medicines are quite expensive, I want to offer you a more budget-friendly, all-natural, home-made option. This recipe is so simple and effective that anyone can make it! To prepare medicinal lollipops we will need:
  • Calamus root (sold in pharmacies).
  • Sugar.
  • Mint.
  • Hibiscus.
  • Ginger (optional).

Making your own throat lozenges

The first thing you need to do is pour some boiled water into a metal container.

Then we pour calamus root, mint and caracde there. The number of ingredients varies depending on how many candies you want to get! I literally took a pinch of everything.

Now we put it all on the fire and cook for about 10 minutes. Watch the size of the fire, since all our liquid is being cooked very actively and is boiling very strongly.

When everything is ready, strain our mixture through a sieve to separate the liquid from the mint and calamus leaves.

And finally, let’s start preparing the candies themselves. We take a metal plate and pour sugar into it and pour the broth in a ratio of 1 to 3, that is, three tablespoons of sugar for one spoon of broth. And cook everything until syrup forms! I did it in 1.5 minutes.

Now quickly remove from the stove and pour the lollipops into the molds! And we put them in the refrigerator so that they harden faster.

And in the end we get these medicinal lollipops. The most important thing is not to overcook the syrup, otherwise the candies will taste bitter, which is not very pleasant!
