Beads from old wooden checkers

I think that many people have wooden checkers at home, but no one has played with them for a long time because they got lost and the remaining amount is now not enough. Having found a box of checkers on my grandmother’s shelf, I had a wonderful idea - to make wonderful beads out of them. Having made sure that grandma no longer needed them, I began to implement my plan.

It took me:
- a lot of pins - iron sticks with a loop at one end;
- 7 checkers;
- several wooden beads of different sizes and colors;
- small chain;
- natural stones for the pendant.
The materials I needed were:
- wire cutters;
- round nose pliers;
- awl.

Beads from old wooden checkers

First of all, I made blanks from checkers. Gently pressing the checker with an awl, I made holes on both sides. After that, I inserted pins into the holes made and twisted them so that the two loops connected, and a secure fastening was obtained. Then I did the same with all the wooden beads.If the wooden beads are too large, it is better to separate them on both sides with huggers, then they will not wobble and, in general, their appearance will be more aesthetically pleasing.

Let's start assembling our beads. We take a light checker and insert a ring into the prepared mount. With its help we connect the checker with the chain.

We attach another checker to the opposite end of our chain for symmetry.

Then we again attach the ring to the second fastening on the checker and hang a small, light wooden bead. Next, using a ring, we hook a large dark bead and again a small light one. We complete the composition with a dark checker.

We do the next gap in the same way and end it with a light checker. Next we make the pendant. To the holes made on the sides on the checker, I added two more next to one of them. I hung chains of multi-colored natural stones into these holes.

We attach the pendant using a ring to a large dark bead, and hang it from a small bead. In the same ring that connected the large and small beads, we hook a second light bead and finish the other side of the beads, symmetrical to the first.
The result is wonderful ethnic beads that will go well with any outfit. Can be worn with beige or brown items, or with a white T-shirt and jeans. You can experiment in different ways.

You can combine two-color checkers with colored wooden beads, then they will sparkle cheerfully and add mood to your everyday wardrobe.
