A memory trail

Children are the flowers of life!!! And how nice it is to hold their tiny hands and feet in your hands. And I really want to leave these tiny “paws” in my memory forever.
Now the store has a huge selection of creativity kits, among which you can probably find a kit for making casts of arms and legs, but all these kits are so expensive, and it’s much more pleasant and cheaper to create all these miracles with your own hands! Moreover, you need absolutely nothing: 1 glass of salt, preferably fine - “Extra”, but in this master class I have coarse salt (as luck would have it, for some reason there was no fine salt in any store), 1 glass of wheat flour, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 0.5 cups of cold water and building plaster (alabaster).

A memory trail

First, we’ll make “molds”; to do this, pour salt and flour into a bowl and mix thoroughly.

Next, add 2 tbsp. vegetable oil and grind all the ingredients. Now slowly add water and knead a thick dough.

Divide the dough into 2 parts and roll out to about 1 cm thick.

Next, we transfer the “cakes” onto a baking sheet and make an imprint of the hand and foot (if the child is small, then first we apply the dough to the hands and feet - we make an impression, and only then, carefully, so as not to deform the impression, we place the dough on a sheet.).The trace should remain clear and as deep as possible. Now we put the sheet with the preparations in the oven, preheated to 70 degrees (no more), and leave for 2.5 hours. Then we take out the blanks and place them on the battery for a day. Well, our molds are ready.

Now we make the “filling”: pour construction plaster into a bowl and pour cold water, mix. The consistency should be like thick sour cream.

We fill our molds with the prepared consistency; this must be done as quickly as possible, because alabaster hardens quite quickly.

Leave overnight for the mixture to harden properly. Then, carefully prying it with a knife, we take out the cast from the “mold”. We cut off all the “unnecessary” parts with a knife and file the contours with a nail file (do everything very carefully). These are the casts I got. It is advisable to cover the “concocted” arms and legs with varnish.
What to do next with the casts? You decide! It all depends on your desire and imagination! You can decorate it with acrylic paints (before varnishing), you can arrange everything in a frame, add a photo of your favorite child. Or you can make casts of the child, mom and dad and put the “composition” together, again adding photographs.

This is how you can easily and without significant costs (one might say using improvised means) you can leave tiny traces in your memory and plus decorate in an original way, say, one of the walls of your apartment or children’s room (if you frame everything in a beautiful frame)!
