How to remove rust from small parts using a screwdriver without sandblasting
To clean small steel parts from rust, you can make a tumbling chamber. In it they will be mixed with sand, which will effectively remove the corrosive layer. This device can be made easily, literally in 5 minutes.
Materials:
- Dry sand;
- glass jar with screw cap;
- M4-M6 screw with nut.
The process of making a tumbling drum from a can and removing rust
It is necessary to mark the center on the lid of the jar. You can determine it using a square and a ruler. You need to press it against the inner corner of the square, and then apply a ruler to its 45-degree bevel. A line is drawn under the ruler on the lid, then it is rotated and another line is made. At their intersection there will be a center.
The middle of the jar is translucent.
Metal burrs on the reverse side are cut off with a mounting knife. A screw is inserted into the hole from inside the cover and secured with a nut on the reverse side.
The jar is filled one third with sand, and rusty parts are thrown into it.Then it is closed with a lid, and the protruding screw is clamped in the chuck of a screwdriver or drill.
The parts should rotate in a jar of sand for about 1-2 hours. For convenience, you can clamp the tool in a vice and block its button with an elastic band or tie.
This method will remove rust from small parts of mechanisms that cannot be sanded manually.
The method is also very useful if you need to preserve threads, notches, teeth and other relief.
