Anyone can grow green onions on a windowsill without any soil.
Of course, you can buy green feathers in the store (at an extremely unattractive price), but how nice it is to cut greens that you grew yourself without any chemicals or fertilizers. This life hack can be repeated by any resident of an apartment building; you don’t need to run out and buy additional land and fertilizers, everyone has everything they need at hand.
To do this you will need:
- plastic egg carton;
- 10 small flat onions;
- 2 thin sticks;
- scissors;
- water.
Growing green onions at home without hassle
The onion is poured with warm water and left for 1 hour.
At this time, the cell is cut into 2 parts.
Then holes are cut in the lower part so that the bottom of the bulbs fits in.
Place 2 sticks on the solid part of the box; you can take a branch and peel the bark from it.
A half with slots is installed on top.
Water is poured 2/3 full.
The top part of the bulbs is cut off and they are installed in cells.
The smell is noticeable only for the first day. Change the water 1-2 times and it will disappear. In 2-3 days, roots will appear, and after another week, sprouts will appear.After 10 days, the feather can be selectively cut off.
If some onions have broken roots, they should be replaced (pictured 2 in the first row).
To force the feathers, no additional lighting is required; on the contrary, the less light, the more the greenery stretches upward. But warmth is a must, so the best place for green onions is in the kitchen. The container can be placed on the refrigerator, table or windowsill. The main thing is not to forget to add water every other day.
