How to cut a fitting into a plastic canister
Plastic canisters have many advantages, which is why they are rarely thrown away, but are reused many times. Another advantage of such containers is the possibility of elementary, but multifunctional modifications for various household needs. We'll tell you how to cut a fitting into it for further connection of hoses or pipelines.
The work is carried out using a screwdriver or drill with a spade drill for the thread diameter of the fitting, an adjustable or open-end wrench and a special device for tightening the fittings. If it is not there, then you can get by with any available means.
Buy an insert of the required dimensions, decide on the location of its installation on the canister. In most cases, this is the lower, flat part at the bottom of the container.
Drill a hole with a screwdriver and remove burrs from the edges. Use a feather drill.
Disassemble the insert, keep in mind that the tightening nut may have a left-hand thread. Remove the rubber gasket.
If you plan to supply liquid from the canister into very small nozzles, then install a filter at the inlet of the insert.Cut a circle from the mesh with the corresponding cells and attach it to the inlet.
Throw the threaded part of the insert through the neck into the canister.
Slide your finger into the drilled hole and catch the element. The finger should go inside the fitting, fix it there and carefully pull it into the hole. With a little skill, the part will stretch without problems.
Hold the mortise by the thread with one hand, and with the other, put the rubber gasket in place and tighten the clamping nut.
To fix the position of the insert, two protrusions are provided for a special key. It can be made from a piece of reinforcement by cutting two grooves to size with a grinder. There is no time to make the element - hold the fitting with pliers or another tool of a suitable size.
Tighten the nut. There is no need to apply too much effort; plastic rubber gaskets will ensure reliable tightness with slight compression. During tightening, the fitting is held so that it does not rotate and damage the gaskets. You should always ensure that the element remains stationary and only turn the nut.
Using this algorithm, you can cut fittings into any containers with narrow necks, and not just into plastic canisters. You just need to select special tools, and the rules for performing the work do not change.
