Decorating an old wardrobe

Don't rush to buy a new one furniture to replace one that has already gone out of fashion. Put your hands and a little creativity to it. For example, try decorating an old wall cabinet with a stained glass pattern. I invite you to a simple master class.

Getting ready for work.
The first thing you need for work is, of course, the cabinet itself with a glass door. You will also need an alcohol solution or acetone to degrease the surface, a drawing template and stained glass paints.

How to choose a template.
There are quite a lot of different stencils on the Internet for creating stained glass windows. And if you know how to draw, then this is absolutely wonderful. The only condition that needs to be taken into account when choosing a design is the reality of its implementation in stained glass. That is, the stencil should be both simple and have closed lines of the design. Otherwise, the stained glass paint will spread over the surface.

So let's get started.
Remove the cabinet door from its hinges. Place it on a flat surface (for example, on two stools). We wipe the glass with an alcohol solution and dry it. We attach the selected pattern to the back wall. This is my own stencil. I drew it, copied it on a photocopier and taped it to the door. You can print one sheet, or you can print several at once, so as not to re-glue them later. Just make sure that the drawing flows logically from one to the other.

Draw the outline of the drawing.
Standard stained glass paint sets offer a black outline. I do not like it. A design with a bronze or gold colored outline looks much more beautiful. That's why I have it exactly like this. We outline all the lines of the drawing with bronze paint so that not a single millimeter is missed anywhere. As mentioned above, this is extremely important for further preservation of liquid stained glass paints within the boundaries of the drawing. After an hour and a half, the circuit will dry, and we will continue working. If you are planning to paint two doors with stained glass, now is the time to re-glue the templates onto another surface.

Drawing the outline of the drawing

A riot of colors.
When the outline is dry, we can paint over the drawing. It is more convenient to use colors not all at once, but in order. For example, in a flower stencil, you can first fill the leaves with green, then the flower petals with red, etc. It will take 12 to 20 hours for the drawing to dry. This is affected by the air humidity in your home and the thickness of the paint layer applied to the glass.

Selecting a background.
The final touch to our creativity will be added by a special matte coating for glass surfaces, which is sold in construction stores. It should be applied to the back of the door in 2-3 layers, each drying for no more than 10 minutes. That's all. Now your door will not only decorate the interior of your home, but will also rid the contents of your closet from prying eyes.

This is how my old cabinet doors turned out (compare: with and without coating). Try it too!
