How to make a rosary from disposable tableware
Perhaps the easiest material to use for making rosary beads at home is plastic. There are several ways to work with it, each of which requires its own approach and equipment. We offer the most primitive method accessible to everyone.
What you will need:
- plastic cutlery;
- awl;
- scissors;
- paraffin candle;
- steel plate.
The process of making rosaries
Disposable spoons, forks and knives should be cut into long strips with scissors. It is better to immediately prepare more raw materials, since one bead requires a couple of devices.
A matrix in the form of a hook is made from a thin metal strip. The radius of its bend determines the size of the beads. A cut is made from the edge of the matrix on the hook for an awl, and a hole is drilled exactly opposite it.
Next, a candle is lit, the edge of a strip of plastic is heated over it and wound around an awl.
After this, the next strip is wound until the bead reaches the desired size.
Next, the awl with the workpiece is inserted into the matrix and scrolled.
The soft plastic will take the correct shape of the bead.If the workpiece is heated carefully without scorching, it will turn out white. You can burn the plastic a little in a couple of places to get black streaks. It is also easy to blacken the bead by holding it over a candle.
After shaping and blackening, if necessary, the bead is slightly cooled in water and removed from the awl. You don't need to cool it completely to prevent it from sticking. Having made the required number of beads, you can knit a rosary.
