Life hack: how to sew up a broken seam on a jacket

Minor troubles often happen with outerwear - the zipper breaks, the lining in the pocket tears, or the seam bursts. It is not always convenient to send a product to a workshop for repairs - you have to wait, and it turns out to be quite expensive.

What to do in such a situation? After all, you can’t buy a new jacket, which also costs a lot. There is only one answer: you need to learn how to do minor clothing repairs with your own hands.

Here is a clear example of such a repair - a burst seam that attaches the sleeve to the jacket. This master class will tell you in detail what needs to be done and in what order to repair the product.

How to repair an insulated jacket

This seam needs to be sewn from the inside out. Therefore, you need to get inside the product. To do this, you should find a seam that can be picked up and then sewn up without compromising the quality of the product. As a rule, in sewing factories they leave a small area in the seam of the sleeve lining, intended just for turning the product inside out. It is sewn up from the front side.

Therefore, the next step should be to turn the sleeves inside out and look at the seams of the sleeve lining. In this item, such a seam was found on the lining of the right sleeve.

The seam line needs to be carefully ripped apart.

Then, through the resulting technical hole, you need to turn out the part of the jacket with the burst seam.

The ends of the threads of the broken stitch must be carefully secured by tying them in knots. After this, you need to sew up the seam at the break point, placing reliable bartacks at the beginning, end and end of the stitching.

Finally, all that remains is to turn the jacket inside out and stitch the hole in the sleeve lining.

The jacket repair is ready!
