How to make a powerful hoe from a piece of pipe that will cut down any roots and weeds
When fighting overgrown weeds, an ordinary hoe flies off from their rhizomes with a ringing sound. For such work, it is necessary to use a stronger and wider tool, capable of chopping hard roots in one movement. It can be made from an ordinary steel pipe.
The basis for the tool will be a 90 mm section from a pipe with a diameter of 130 mm.
This workpiece must be trimmed by removing excess metal. Half of its length is cut off on one side, then the transverse cut is brought to the edge at a slight slope.
In the narrow part of the pipe you need to drill 2 holes with a diameter of 8 mm.
Then, sharpening must be done on the protruding part of the workpiece opposite to them. Along the outer circumference this is done using a grinder.
On the inside you need to use a cutter in combination with a drill.
If possible, it is necessary to sand the workpiece to remove rust. The smoother it is, the less clods of earth will stick to it when working in wet weather.
To attach the handle, it is necessary to prepare a piece of pipe with a diameter of 40 mm. One of its ends is cut at an angle.
2 holes with a diameter of 4 mm are drilled in the workpiece for installing self-tapping screws.
To fasten the prepared pipes together, it is necessary to make a spacer in the form of a plate. It can be cut from a strip, angle, or fairly thick sheet steel. Holes are drilled in the plate opposite those already existing in the 130th pipe. In order for them to fit exactly, it is better to drill with a larger drill. Then the plate and sharpened pipe are screwed together with M8 bolts.
Next, the 40 mm tube is welded to the spacer with a beveled end. If the gap between the bolts does not allow it to be placed, then the edge can be flattened with hammer blows.
A handle is inserted into the welded tube. For fastening, 2 self-tapping screws are driven into it through the side holes in the tube.
A hoe made from a pipe can be driven with all its might into large weeds or seedlings of stone fruit trees. Due to the thickness of the metal, it will not break or bend. At the same time, the weight of the tool allows you to cut down roots and stems in one movement. You can also use a hoe to prepare holes and furrows for planting. It can be used for weeding, just like a regular hoe.
