Mousetrap made from a plastic canister
From scrap materials you can quickly make an effective device for catching small rodents. The design components are almost free. Detailed instructions will help you perform the necessary work operations with your own hands.
Tool: hot glue; marker; grinder with a universal disc; side cutters; scissors; soldering iron; plastic clamps.
Apply the markings with a marker. Leave the distance from the walls to the edges of the hole at least 2-3 cm.
We make cuts with a grinder. The material is soft, so any disc will do. The choice of speed mode is not significant.
Use side cutters to remove excess parts of the mesh.
In the central part we make a hole corresponding to the diameter of the jar.
Use scissors to separate the bottom and lid. We create curly cutouts in the lower part. We bend the petals of the “crown” towards the center.
Use a soldering iron to make holes in the container. A step of no more than 10 cm is recommended to maintain sufficient strength of the trap.
To secure the mesh, you can use specialized clamps or twine.
To install the can we use hot melt adhesive.No special heating device is needed. A serial soldering iron with a power of 25 W or more performs similar functions.
Having filled in the bait, check the functionality of the device. Practical tests confirm the effectiveness of the trap. Mice get inside without significant difficulty. The exit to the outside is blocked.
Rinse the container thoroughly to eliminate any foreign odors that may repel rodents. The exact design parameters are determined taking into account the number and size of animals. You can use a jar of a different volume to expand (narrow) the inlet hole. For reliable fixation on the floor surface, several rubber strips are glued to the outside of the bottom wall. In the example considered, bricks prevent the trap from moving.
To create a trap, prepare:
- Plastic canister;
- aluminum can 0.5 l;
- metal mesh with cells up to 15x15 mm.
