How to perfectly straighten thick wire in 5 seconds

How to perfectly straighten thick wire in 5 seconds

Sometimes thick steel wire is used to make parts. To make it easier to make something out of it, it must be very even. Aligning it manually using a mechanical method is incredibly time-consuming and labor-intensive. Below is an almost instantaneous method that allows you to straighten the wire in a matter of seconds.

Quick wire alignment method

Initially the wire looks like this:

To straighten it you will need two simple tools. You can, of course, do without them, but if you do this often, it is better to make them.

These are any two sections of profile pipe with welded washers or nuts.

Also, for work we will need any welding machine. It is highly advisable to use a model with a special (homemade) on/off button.

We connect one contact from the welding machine to one piece of pipe, the second to the second.

Take a piece of wire that needs to be straightened. From each end we make a bend of 1 cm using pliers. We hook these hooks to the washers of the device and pull the wire. All work must be carried out with gloves.

We click the button to turn on the welding machine. The wire becomes red hot.

Immediately turn off the device and wait for the wire to cool completely. All this time it must be kept taut.

When everything cooled down, the wire became like a perfect string, without any defects.

Now you can cut it into any lengths and make anything you want out of it.

This is of course good, but annealing occurs. If this is not important, then this method will do.

It could be simpler. Fix one end of the wire, and clamp the other end into the drill. Pull and start turning the drill

In this way, I adjusted the required length to the given resistance of the nichrome wire when making 12V soldering irons. This is when you need to place the required resistance in a given volume.
