Reliable DIY repair of plastic cracks

Products and plastics are susceptible to cracks under mechanical stress. Repairing them with glue gives unreliable results, so it is better to repair cracks by soldering. If this is done using the method proposed below, then the restored part will no longer crack due to the old damage.

What you will need:

  • Electric soldering iron;
  • aluminum tape;
  • drill or engraver;
  • grinding attachment for engraver;
  • plastic tie.

DIY plastic repair process

Aluminum tape is glued to the crack on the front side of the part to connect its edges.

Then, on the reverse side, the plastic is smoothed along the crack with a sanding attachment.

After this, the crack is heated with a soldering iron with a spatula tip. You need to sort of smooth it out, fusing the plastic.

Finally, take a plastic tie, apply it to the crack and fuse it on top.

If necessary, sand off rough deposits.

As a result, we obtain a very strong, hermetically sealed seal between the edges of the crack.

If necessary, the crack can be painted over with paint from an aerosol can.
