We germinate seedlings from cuttings using a banana

A regular banana, which you can buy in a supermarket, contains a natural growth hormone that promotes rooting of plants. Its use allows you to germinate roots even from weakened, dried cuttings. If you are for natural gardening and prefer not to use purchased rooting agents or biostimulants, then this method is exactly what will help you achieve almost 100% survival rate of cuttings.

What you will need:

  • Banana;
  • substrate for planting;
  • perlite;
  • plastic bag;
  • pot;
  • knife.

The process of germinating roots in a banana

First you need to prepare a soil mixture for the plant. It is best that it retains moisture well, so it is advisable to add perlite to the substrate.

Then the cutting is prepared. Its bottom cut needs to be updated. It also doesn’t hurt to cut off the bark on the side down to the cambium in a couple of places to prepare a springboard for root germination. Then the stalk is stuck into the banana half.

A banana cutting is planted in a pot. To avoid constantly watering it in the future, you can lay mulch on top.

Then the pot is well watered, and the cutting is covered with a cap from the bag.

The pot is placed in a shaded place. With mulch and covered with a bag, the cuttings will definitely not dry out, and the banana will do its job.

In about a month, the seedling will develop a root.
