How to make water-repellent paint for metal, concrete, wood and even plastic

Paint used outdoors must have increased weather resistance. Unfortunately, not all paints and varnishes have these qualities. If you don’t want to buy guaranteed high-quality, but very expensive paint, you can make it yourself. The cost of producing a homemade one is several times lower, while in terms of atmospheric resistance it is equal to premium paintwork materials.

Materials:

  • bitumen;
  • silicone sealant;
  • petrol;
  • primer GF 0-21.

Option 1: Black bitumen paint

For this paint, you need to heat the bitumen to make it liquid.

Then the sealant is taken into a separate container and dissolved in gasoline. For 1 liter of bitumen, add a quarter tube of silicone. Gasoline is a solvent.

Thanks to the presence of silicone, bitumen does not become brittle after drying. It can be applied to bendable surfaces and will never fall off.

The result is a black matte surface that does not retain water at all.

This paint can be applied to metal, concrete, wood, plastic, even with a spray gun.

Option 2: Colored paint based on primer

To prepare paint according to this recipe, you need to use the usual GF 0-21 primer instead of bitumen. Everything is mixed in the same way, only the soil does not need to be heated beforehand. GF 0-21 is sold in different colors, so you can choose the one you need.

Due to silicone, paint based on primer becomes more opaque. It is less absorbed into wood and concrete. Unlike pure primer, it cannot be washed off.

Both paint options are universal. They are suitable for any surface, even glossy plastic. In this case, they do not require a primer underneath, and no varnish is required on top.

    If the composition includes bitumen mastic, then silicone is not needed there
