How to make regular fabric waterproof
To avoid getting wet to the skin when caught in the rain, clothes can be made waterproof using the old cheap method. To do this, you just need to soak it in special solutions made from natural, safe ingredients. The treated fabric will retain flexibility and elasticity, but will no longer absorb water. This method can also protect covers, a hammock, a backpack or a tent if it leaks.
What you will need:
- potassium alum;
- laundry soap;
- water.
The process of preparing solutions and impregnating fabric
To impregnate the fabric you need to prepare 2 solutions. One is soap, the other is alum. When mixing the first one, half a pack of grated soap is added to 1 liter of water.
For better dissolution, you can boil it. When preparing the second solution for 1 liter, 50 g is used. alum.
To process, you need to dip the fabric in a soapy solution and dry it. Then it is soaked in alum and dried again. After this, the fabric will darken a little, but will become waterproof and still allow air to pass through.
