DIY bearing bending machine

When reinforcing foundations or laying walls, it is necessary to lay reinforcement, which must first be bent. This can be done quickly and smoothly only on a bending machine. This is a simple and compact device that you can make yourself. It will also be useful for bending thin rods for various crafts.

Materials:

  • the large bearing may be jammed;
  • long bolt M12 or thicker;
  • 3 M12 nuts;
  • extended nut M12;
  • steel strip of at least 60x10 mm or plate.

Manufacturing of bending machine

Large bearing rings with an outer diameter of 100 mm or more will be used as a pusher and bending support of the machine. Its outer ring is cut in half.

One of its halves is welded onto a steel strip, as in the photo.

Part of the inner ring is cut to fit the width of the nut, which is then welded into it.

Before this, you need to remove its thread by driving a drill through it. It is necessary that the bolt passes through it without being screwed in.

Next, you need to grind the edges of 2 more nuts, giving them a rounded shape.

A long nut is screwed onto the bolt, then a short one with the edges removed.Its end is threaded through an expanded nut welded into the inner ring of the bearing. Then the remaining narrow turned nut is screwed onto it.

To prevent nuts without edges from unscrewing, they need to be scalded. Before this, they are tightened so that the ring does not wobble relative to the bolt.

On the back side of the steel strip with a half ring you need to weld a small flag. In the future it will be convenient to clamp the machine in a vice.

Then the strip is turned over and a mechanism with a bolt is welded to the edge opposite to the half-ring. Welding is done only on the long nut. Thus, when the bolt rotates, the push ring will move towards the thrust half ring.

How to use

The machine is clamped in a vice by the flag made at the bottom. Reinforcement is placed between the rings. To move the pusher to the stop, you need to rotate the screw with a wrench. In this case, the reinforcement does not jump out, since it is held in place by a groove on the bearing ring. As the bolt is screwed in, the rod bends to the required angle.

Despite the small size of the machine, its capabilities are sufficient to easily bend thin rods and reinforcement with a diameter of up to 6 mm. Thicker rolled products, if the machine is welded well, will not harm it either. For convenience, you can weld a driver to the bolt head so as not to use a wrench.

    I'm sorry, but 6 mm. I can easily bend the rod with my hands at any angle, even 8 mm. Same. This machine is interesting for metal with a larger diameter - from 12mm. and further. But the bearing race will most likely burst. But the idea is not bad.
