1 trick to make it easier to sharpen a knife to a razor using a whetstone

The ability to sharpen a knife on a stone is difficult, since it is important to maintain the same angle with each movement of the blade. In this regard, many designs of different sharpeners have been invented to facilitate this process. However, you can sharpen a knife to razor sharpness with an even simpler device.

What you will need:

  • Grindstone;
  • pipe for underfloor heating 16 mm;
  • grinding block;
  • paste GOI.

Knife sharpening process

To maintain the same sharpening angle at all times, you need to take a piece of tube for heated floors 15 cm long. It must be cut along one wall at a time.

The tube is then placed on the butt of a dull knife that needs to be sharpened.

Now, resting the edge of the knife and the tube against the sharpening stone, you can always maintain the same angle. After this, we sharpen the knife first on one side, then on the other. In the finale, we make sure to guide it with the cutting edge forward.

Ideally, use sharpening stones of different grain sizes, gradually lowering them. Even if you have the smallest stone at 4000 GRIT, the knife will turn out to be very sharp.

To make it truly razor-like, it is better to do the final editing using GOI paste. To do this, you can use a sanding block under sandpaper. It has a soft lining on which we apply the paste. Then we straighten the knife against it. After this you can actually shave with it.
