Do-it-yourself tumbling chamber for a drill

In order to very efficiently clean small metal parts from rust and paint deposits, you can make a small tumbling chamber. A drill is suitable as a drive for it, but any available electric motor can be used. This is an effective device that will allow you to clean even small screws from corrosion while maintaining the integrity of their threads.

Materials:

  • Steel pipe 100 mm;
  • steel pipe 1 inch;
  • sheet steel 2 mm;
  • rod 10 mm;
  • bearings with an outer diameter of 25 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • corner 40x40 mm;
  • rotating machine center.

Tumbling drum manufacturing process

2 plug discs are cut from sheet steel for a 100 mm pipe. They are drilled in the middle.

Then a 200 mm long rod is welded into the center of one of them strictly perpendicularly.

Using a plug with a rod, you need to weld the tumbling chamber, which is a piece of pipe with a diameter of 100 mm and a length of 300 mm.

Next, a piece of an inch tube 100 mm long is taken, and bearings are pressed into its edges.

Then the bed is made. It is a long section of profile pipe 100x40 mm. From the edge, 2 pieces of corner are welded across it.They are needed to create a base and weld a tube with bearings on top of it.

The rod on the drum is inserted into a tube with bearings.

In front, the chamber is closed with a plug. In order for it to hold, you need to machine a step on it, or weld it from two disks, the inner one of which can fit into the pipe.

Next you need to make a clamp for the plug. A nut and bolt are welded into a piece of thin steel tube 100 mm long. For the latter, instead of a head, you need to weld a flag to get a lamb.

A corner is welded to the second edge of the frame. A previously made tube with a machine-made rotating center inserted inside is welded directly to it. Everything is set so that when the bolt is screwed in, the center presses the plug against the tumbling chamber.

Now sand and parts for cleaning are poured into the tumbling chamber.

Then it is closed with a plug, which is supported by a machine center.

The drum rod is clamped into the drill chuck, and it starts.

As a result of rotation, the rolling abrasive will clean the metal of rust.
