How to make Danish oil for wood impregnation at home
To protect the wood from moisture, reveal its texture and give it a beautiful decorative matte shine with slight tinting, you can soak it in your own homemade oil. The components for it are sold at any hardware or construction store and are inexpensive. This oil has a low cost, but the quality is comparable to the best purchased samples.
Components and proportions:
- beeswax – 50 gr.;
- pine rosin – 40-60 g;
- white spirit – 0.5 l;
- linseed oil – 0.5 l;
- polyurethane or alkyd-polyurethane varnish – 0.5 l.
Danish butter preparation process
Place a pan with water and a rag on the bottom on the fire. A glass jar is placed in it.
Flaxseed oil is poured into a jar and brought to a boil.
After boiling, rosin crushed into powder is poured into the oil, and everything is mixed with a wooden stick. You need to stir without reducing the heat until the rosin is completely dissolved.
At the same time, varnish and white spirit are mixed in a separate container.
The oil will become darker as the rosin dissolves.
Next, grated wax is added to it and also melted.This will already happen faster than the dissolution of rosin.
After the wax has completely melted, the oil and varnish are mixed with white spirit.
The product is used after cooling. You can impregnate wood with it using a bandage, rags, or brush.
This impregnation does not leave a film on the surface. It turns out matte, slightly darker than varnish. Thanks to white spirit, the oil is absorbed deep into the wood, providing reliable protection against rotting. The smell of solvent disappears from the surface within a day.
