DIY soldering iron with instant heating from a transformer
You probably have an old stereo or other equipment lying around in your closet that contains a step-down transformer. From it you can very simply and easily assemble a soldering iron with instant heating.
The convenience of this soldering iron is that it heats up in almost a matter of seconds and is instantly ready for use. In general, there is no need to wait for the sting to warm up.
Making a soldering iron from a transformer from a music center
We won’t disassemble the transformer core so as not to get too confused. We will not touch the 220 V network winding either, it will remain unchanged. Let's remove only the secondary winding. Therefore, we cut off the insulation with a utility knife.
Next, we unravel the wire turn by turn, but do not throw it away, we will need it later.
The section is empty.
Now we take the wound wire and cut it into even pieces 0.4 meters long.
We strip the ends of each wire on both sides by about 2 centimeters.
Next, we take this bundle and put heat shrink on it.
This is what the wire should look like in the end:
Then, insert it into the secondary winding section and make 2 turns.
To make a sting, take a piece of wire approximately 1.5 - 2 mm thick.
Remove the insulation and bend it in half.
We insert it into the middle of the terminals.
We fix it by wrapping it with wire.
This fastening is reliable and the sting will not go anywhere.
We make the base of the soldering iron from multilayer plywood.
We screw the transformer.
We make a handle from a piece of PVC pipe. At the end we cut out a groove for the switch.
We insert the switch, solder the wires, insert the handle into the base.
The soldering iron is ready!
We plug it into the network and test it.
Solders great.
