Organizer for spools of thread

The photo shows a perfectionist's nightmare. But a needlewoman can hardly be intimidated by the chaos around her: stacks of fabrics, pillows with needles and boxes of thread, an abundance of patterns and other devices are an obligatory ambiance of the craftswoman’s workspace. However, it cannot be said that they do not have a desire for order. Another thing is that not everyone knows how to keep creative impulses and their consequences within the framework of this very order.
To prevent spools of sewing thread from rolling up, getting lost, and being clearly visible, you can create an excellent organizer for them. This is not at all difficult to do with your own hands: for each reel, prepare an individual perch - a holder rod, as in the photo.

So, for work you will need:
  • - box,
  • - toothpicks,
  • - thick foam.

Find a box of a suitable size. The shape can be any - round, square, etc. The photo shows a round tin box of halva. We select a sheet of foam plastic with a thickness of at least 1.5 cm (or preferably larger - 2-3 cm). If you only have thin sheets, fold them in several rows until you reach the required height.Adjust them to the size of the bottom of the box, carefully cut off the excess. If necessary, you can glue it to the bottom, although the thick foam holds up quite well without it.

Now you need to stick wooden toothpicks into the foam. The depth of “immersion” is approximately a third of the stick. The distance between the sticks is equal to the thickness of the coils plus a couple of millimeters.

Stick toothpicks in rows.

And voila, the thread organizer is ready.

We arrange the threads and enjoy the order. Each coil is clearly visible, and the desired color is easily selected.
