Happy elephant - sofa cushion
We create coziness and comfort in the house ourselves - with our own hands, according to our own idea of what it should be. We are surrounded only by those things that are functional, convenient and interesting. According to the Indians, every house should have an elephant: no, not a real one, but only its image. In their homes there is always a symbolic embodiment of Ganesha - the deity of wisdom and prosperity, depicted with an elephant's head.
This is such a happy elephant. Make an elephant with your own hands for home comfort. Crocheting such a sofa pillow is not difficult. A detailed description of the work is in the following master class. Besides the craft materials, all you need is patience.
Crochet materials:
The yarn from which the sofa cushion - Happy Elephant was knitted, was thick - twisted in three threads. Hook number 5 was ideal for the job.
The largest part of the pillow is the cover (the body of the elephant). It is knitted under a pillow (50x50 cm), which will then be inside it.
Cast on 130 chain stitches.Knit the first row with single crochets. Next, knit the fabric in the simplest way: even rows - dc, odd rows - dc.
In the photo, the finished rectangular canvas is folded in half.
The height of the cover corresponds to the height of the pillow. The length of the canvas should cover both sides.
Pillow 50x50 cm: poplin + holofiber inside.
Fold the cover fabric in half.
Decide on the location of the head and legs. In this case, the fold of the canvas ended up at the feet. The snake was sewn opposite - on the back.
Select the zipper to match the yarn, sew on it by machine or by hand.
If the pillow is double-sided, then the location (right or left) of the trunk does not matter.
If the ears and eyes are only on one side, then you should first think about where to direct the elephant’s gaze and trunk.
To knit the part, take the upper quarter of the loops from the front side and the same amount from the back, cast on 5 chain stitches over the snake. Knit the edge of the fabric with a column, then the work moves up perpendicular to the cover.
To make the piece bend easily and naturally, knit with stitches of different sizes. Divide the number of trunk loops into three parts. On the middle third, knit double crochets, on the outer thirds, knit double crochets. A mound will form in the middle part of this canvas. Knit 10-15 rows in this way.
Then change the type of knitting: one row is dc, the other is dc. In rows with a single crochet, continue to knit double crochets on the middle loops; along the edges of the row - double crochet. The rows of double stitches are knitted the same way.
The length of the trunk is equal to the height of the pillow or slightly less than this.
Make a bend at the end of the trunk. When knitting, switch to st.b/n. In the middle, as before, on a third of the loops, knit treble s/2n.Knit the edges of the trunk from the wrong side with non-woven stitches to form a tube.
Knit the side walls of the cover in a crawfish step, connecting columns b/n.
Ear. This pillow is one-sided, i.e. the eye and ear are only on one side, from the facade, so there is only one ear. If there is no shortage of yarn, then you can design both sides of the pillow the same way.
For the ear, knit a double stitch circle. As you knit, it is important to remember to add stitches. It is not necessary to strive to maintain the evenness of the canvas. To give volume to the part, you can add a few extra loops while knitting the circle, then the fabric will begin to ripple.
The elephant's ear is slightly pointed at the bottom. To achieve this effect, it is necessary to knit part of the loops (6-7) treble crochet in this part of the ear.
The height of the ear is slightly less than two-thirds the height of the pillow.
Sew the ear to the case. Use stitches to walk in a circle around the center of the ear, and use separate stitches in four places to hook the edge of the part so that it does not bend too much.
Eye. Using white cotton threads (Lily) in double stitch, knit a circle with a diameter of 5 cm.
Pupil. Using black cotton threads, knit the inner part of the eye. Knit 2 rows in st.b/n. Knit the third row with a treble stitch, do not close it at the end, i.e. Do not connect the last loop to the first one in the row. Fasten the thread and cut it off.
Iris. From blue cotton yarn, knit a small circle for 2 rows of double stitch.
Place the details of the eye one on top of the other, go along the edges with sewing stitches to connect the parts into a whole.
Sew the eye to the cover.
Dial 18 air.p. In the first row, knit them in st.b/n. In the second row of the fan: 3 ch.for lifting, 7 treble s/2n in one base loop, *skip 3 base loops, 1 treble, skip 3 base loops, 8 treble s/2n in the fourth base loop*, repeat from* to* .
Connect two similar parts.
Sew the hooves at the bottom edge of the cover.
Attach the thread to the corner of the cover opposite the trunk. Dial 15-20 air points.
Cut a bunch of threads and make a brush out of them. Attach the element to the tip of the air chain and connect the parts.
Place the filler pillow in the cover and fasten the zipper. The happy elephant is ready.
You can use synthetic padding or an old children's jacket to fill the cover.
It is believed that for complete happiness there should be seven such elephants: each next one is slightly smaller than the previous one, every second one is pink.
If you like the idea, pick up the materials and get to work. Good luck!
