Crochet scratching mittens for newborns

Cute baby mittens protect the delicate skin of the face from scratches that newborns inflict on themselves with sharp nails. That is why anti-scratch mittens are popular accessories in a baby’s wardrobe, which parents prepare before his birth. Scratchies can be crocheted very quickly, enjoying the process and rejoicing at the thought that the baby will wear things made by mother’s loving hands. Also, such mittens will be an excellent gift for a newborn and his parents from family or friends. They will definitely turn out to be useful and in demand, and will also effectively decorate the baby’s first photo shoot!

The process of knitting a product will take no more than an hour of your time. To get started, you will need yarn, a hook of the appropriate size, a ruler, scissors and decorative elements.
You can choose any yarn. I took my favorite stretch pekhorka in a milky shade. This yarn is very soft and gentle to the touch; the seams of the product will not even be felt by the skin of a newborn. It also has the ability to stretch, which allows you to use the product from the very first days of the baby’s life to three months.
In the description I used the following abbreviations:
VP - air loop.
RLS - single crochet.
I divided the knitting process into several stages.

First stage - Knitting an elastic cuff

In order to start knitting, we collect a chain of 7 VPs.

1st row - knit 6 sc, starting from the 2nd loop from the hook.
2nd row - we knit a sc in each half-loop of the previous row - i.e. Each time, knitting a stitch, we hook the far thread of the loop.
We knit the 3rd - 15 rows similarly to the second. You should end up with an elastic cuff like this:

Now we fold the elastic band in half and connect the outer rows with half double crochets. As a result, we get a ring:

Second stage - Product basis

We begin this stage by tying the cuff. To do this, we knit 3 sc in the circle between each pair of rows - this will be the 1st row of the base. In total there should be 22 sc in this row.

We turn the elastic inside out so that the seam is hidden on the wrong side.
2nd row - we knit a sc in each half-loop of the previous row (by the back thread of the loop). It turns out 22 RLS.

We knit the 3rd - 6th rows similarly to the second.

Third stage - Closing the mitten

Now we go to decrease: with each row we make decreases more and more often.
7th row - we knit the first two columns of the previous row as usual (like rows 2-6 of the base of the product), we knit the third and fourth together, and so on until the end of the row. By the end of the row you should have 17 sc. To make it easier to navigate at the beginning of a new row, make notes using a thread marker.
8th row - now every second or third column is knitted together.
9th row - we knit together a couple of columns of the previous row.
10th row - by the last row you should have 5 columns left. We put loops on one hook through them - 5 loops in total - and knit them with one stitch.Cutting the thread:

We insert the thread onto the wrong side and tie a knot so that the product does not unravel. This is the anti-scratch mitten we made:

And after a while the same second one will be ready:

Now we design the products to your taste. You can thread a thin satin ribbon between the cuff and the base of the mitten and tie it in a bow:

Mittens on a baby, complete with socks made of the same yarn, will look very dignified.

Thank you, scratchies are simply necessary for a little toddler, and, as it turns out, they are difficult to find in stores. Therefore, it is easier to knit by following these instructions.
