Flower pot decor

Decorating a flower pot with your own hands is not only an interesting, but also a useful activity that will save money and liven up the interior a little. And it’s always nice to just make a beautiful and unique thing for your home. I love Russian motifs, that's why decor my flower pot echoes the style of the Khokhloma pattern.

For work you will need the following materials:
• a ready-made simple flower pot or a plastic food bucket;
• burlap or thick linen fabric;
• braid;
• modeling clay;
• plasticine;
• gouache paints;
• watermelon seeds, spikelets and other natural materials for decoration;
• thin wire;
• awl;
• needle with thread;
• other office supplies.

materials

I used an ordinary plastic mayonnaise bucket as a flower pot. There is a protruding part (rim) where the bucket closes with a lid. You need to make several holes in it with an awl. At the same time we will make drainage holes in the bottom. If the pot will be used for topiary, then there is no need to make holes in the bottom.

Now cut out a rectangle from burlap (linen or other fabric).It should be of such a size that it completely encloses the pot plus a small margin on all four sides. We bend or hem the edges so that they do not fray, and tightly cover the pot with fabric. We sew at the junction. If you are decorating a flower pot for an indoor plant that will naturally be watered, then the fabric should wrap the container only on the outside. So I folded the edges under the fabric. For topiary or other decorative composition, on the contrary, it is better to cover the bottom of the pot with fabric and bend the fabric slightly inward on top.

To keep the fabric straight and not move, we secure it on top with thin wire. The wire needs to be threaded through the holes that were made earlier in the rim of the bucket.

The base is ready. Sew the braid on top and bottom. I sewed a strip of cellophane under the bottom braid and on the inside of the fabric so that when watering the flower the bottom of the fabric would not get wet.

Now you can start decorating directly. The decor does not exactly copy the Khokhloma pattern, but will be similar to it. Therefore, for decoration I made sunflowers, strawberries, and used natural materials. The colors are also Khokhloma - red, yellow, brown. We make sunflowers from modeling clay. They will be of different sizes and shapes - small, large, turned “towards the sun”. We attach large sunflowers to the pot with wire, making holes with an awl, and plant small ones with super glue. We paint with gouache.

We also sculpt strawberries from clay, the stem from green plasticine, and small white flowers from paper. Let's color it.

All that remains is to glue the clay leaves.

If the size of the pot allows, then it can be decorated with small dried flowers, ears of corn and anything else that looks appropriate. At the same time, disguise the side seam in this way. For durability, the decoration should be varnished. I used the lid from the bucket as a tray, removing the label from it. And the flower really liked growing in such a beautiful pot.
