Repair and decoration of the living room

A young married couple inherited a small one-room apartment near Moscow. The pimply ceiling, six layers of wallpaper on the walls and the scary patches of round sockets looked depressing, but a happy accident brought the owners of the apartment together with another married couple who had been professionally engaged in renovation and decoration of premises for many years. The craftsmen promised to transform the room and corridor into beautiful modern spaces in seven days. And they kept their word to the fullest. Here's how it happened.
To begin with, all six layers of wallpaper and the lowest layer, consisting of newspapers from the 1980s, had to be completely removed from the walls.
To make the work easier, various liquids were used to remove old wallpaper.

But still, the main work had to be done with hands and a sharp spatula.

By the end of the first day, the walls were cleared of the legacy of the “dark era”.

Next, in order to protect the walls from fungus, mold and other problems, it was decided to use a deep penetration antiseptic impregnation.

All walls had to be carefully treated with this impregnation.

The visibly refreshed walls were well dried. For further finishing of the walls, we purchased high-quality Finnish putty.

The putty is mixed with cold water in the proportions specified by the manufacturer.

Next, the solution is applied to the walls with a wide steel spatula.

Plastered walls must be dried.
To quickly and inexpensively finish the ceiling, we chose German “Format” ceiling tiles with graphic relief.

We started gluing the slabs from the center of the ceiling.

Three hours later, the ceiling was already pleasing to the eye with its fresh, cheerful appearance.

The perimeter of the ceiling was trimmed with ceiling plinth. The joints of the plinth with the wall and ceiling were carefully puttied with the same solution that was used to finish the walls.

Before gluing, all the wallpaper was cut out.

For high-quality wallpaper gluing, you need to choose the right glue; in this case, the wallpaper was on a non-woven backing, so the glue was selected for this type of wallpaper.

The glue was dissolved in cold water according to the instructions.

Before gluing the first sheet, you need to draw a line on the wall, following the plumb line.

Glue the first sheet along the drawn line, leaving a small margin on top.

A soft rubber roller will allow you to stick wallpaper efficiently and beautifully.

Excess wallpaper is cut off with a sharp mechanical knife. The room became modern, bright and beautiful.

The walls in the hallway were also cleaned of old coatings, primed and carefully plastered.
For the ceiling we also chose “Format” tiles, but with a different texture.

To decorate the walls, we decided to use “liquid wallpaper” of a golden color with the addition of gold glitter.

After drying, the walls looked simply wonderful and were warm and pleasant to the touch.

Commercial linoleum with a polar oak pattern was laid on the floor and the perimeter was trimmed with baseboard to match the doors.

A week passed and the apartment changed beyond recognition. A continuation for the kitchen and bathroom is expected next month.

If space does not allow (as in this case), you can do it in Japanese style)) It looks very stylish! I contrasted white wallpaper with red decorative elements and black furniture.
