How to make a bearing puller from a piece of profile pipe

In a home workshop or even at the workplace, a fairly simple bearing puller made from the remains of a profile pipe and bolts with nuts will not be superfluous. With its help, it will be easy to press bearings out of their seats on shafts and axles. Any adult can do it and no special knowledge or skills are needed.

Will need

Materials:

  • profile rectangular pipe;
  • extended bolts and nuts for them;
  • a bolt with a pointed end and an extended nut;
  • short bolt and nuts.

Tools: vice, measuring and marking accessories, grinder, core and hammer, drilling machine, hand tap with crank, wrenches.

The process of manufacturing a bearing puller from a profile pipe and bolts

We clamp the profile rectangular pipe in a vice. We measure and cut two identical pieces of 16 cm from it.

We mark the centers of the holes along the longitudinal axis of one of the pipe sections along the edges and drill through holes.

From nearby corners to the holes we draw two tangent lines and cut out a kind of “dovetail”.

On the flat side of the part with dovetails, mark the middle, draw a midline and mark a point on it offset to one edge.

On the opposite side of the midline, set aside 3 cm in both directions and connect a point offset from the center with points spaced 3 cm from the midline. From the points on the face, draw two parallel straight lines along the narrow side to the next face and two parallel straight lines along the wide side side to the calculated mark.

We cut out the metal limited by the drawn lines. As a result, we get a triangular cutout on one wide side, and a rectangular one on the other.

We lay the part with the cutouts with a rectangular cutout on the second section of the profile rectangular pipe and mark on it the points that coincide vertically with the centers of the rounded “dovetails” on both sides. We drill through holes at these points.

We again lay the part with the cutouts on a section of profile pipe with two holes and mark a point on it slightly above the top of the triangular cutout, and drill a through hole along it. We cut threads in these through holes with a tap.

We insert extended bolts into the holes of the part with cutouts and secure them with nuts on the reverse side. We screw one more nut onto the bolts and insert them into the holes of the second part from the profile pipe until they stop at the nuts. Screw on one more nut from the outside and tighten it with wrenches.

Under the head of the pointed bolt, screw and tighten the elongated nut until it stops, in which we drill a through hole. We insert a small bolt of suitable diameter into the hole and screw two nuts onto the end, locking each other.

We insert the bolt with its sharp end into the threaded hole and screw it in until the pointed end comes out of the second threaded hole. Our bearing puller is completely ready for use.

We fix the shaft with the bearing in a vice, rest the sharp end of the bolt against the end of the shaft, and bring the sides of the triangular cutout under the bottom of the outer ring of the bearing, and begin to screw in the bolt. As a result, the horizontal components of the lift begin to rise and press out the bearing.
