7 reasons why the radiator does not heat up

The heating radiator may not heat for various reasons. To make it hot and maintain a comfortable temperature in the room, you need to know about them. This will fix the problem. Let's look at these reasons.

1. The battery is clogged

If dirty coolant circulates in your system, the battery may simply become clogged. This happens especially often if you have centralized city heating. In this case, the radiator must be removed and cleaned mechanically or chemically.

2. The system is airy

Most often, the battery does not heat up because air pockets have accumulated in it. To combat them, the installation of Mayevsky cranes is required. With their help, air can be safely released without flooding the floor. If you live on the upper floors, then Mayevsky taps should definitely be installed on each radiator.

3. Incorrectly connected battery

If the battery is connected incorrectly, the coolant in it moves along the path of less resistance. As a result, only a few sections are warm. In the rest, stagnation of cold liquid occurs. This problem does not happen if you connect the battery diagonally.

4. Low temperature

It should not be ruled out that the battery is cold, since the coolant is not hot enough. In this case, no matter what you do with it, there will be no heat. The situation will be improved a little by gluing a heat-reflecting screen behind the radiator. But it’s better, of course, to add the coolant temperature, if possible.

5. Low coolant speed

If the coolant speed in the system is less than 0.5-1.5 m/s, then the coolant still has time to cool down until it reaches the distant radiators. If there is such a problem, you need to check the parameters of the circulation pump; it may be worth replacing it. Also, low speed can be caused by clogging of pipes, their muzzle narrowing as a result of improper soldering.

6. Low blood pressure

If the pressure in the system is weak, then the coolant cannot pass normally through the narrow channels in the radiators, and it does not reach the radiators on the upper floors. The reason for low pressure is a weak pump, excessive pipe diameter or air pockets. The pressure also drops if there is a breakthrough in the system.

7. The shut-off valve is broken

Also, the battery may not heat up because the shut-off valve is broken, which blocks the coolant supply. It can pass in a weak trickle, which of course heats up the radiator barely noticeably.
