How to make a universal pumping device from an old fuel pump

Some components and assemblies removed from cars are fully functional and can be successfully adapted to perform some other functions. For example, an electric fuel pump that does not provide the required pressure or performance can also be put into operation, and this will not require large expenses or any special knowledge and skills from you.

Will need

Materials:

  • old fuel pump removed from the car;
  • universal cyanoacrylate glue;
  • plastic tube and hose;
  • clamps in the form of tension springs;
  • metal fitting;
  • electrical wiring for power supply;
  • tape or tape.

The process of transforming an old fuel pump into a universal transfer device

Using universal cyanoacrylate glue, we attach a short plastic tube to the inlet of the fuel pump, and a longer one to the outlet.

Strengthening it for reliable compression with a clamp in the form of a suitable compression spring.

We insert a metal fitting into one end of a long hose, secure it with universal glue and additionally strengthen it with a compression spring with discharged end coils, which are designed to hold the base of the hose from sharp kinks and fractures. We insert the free end of the metal fitting into a short plastic tube at the pump inlet and also place it on universal glue to ensure tightness.

An electrical cord with a plug at one end, alligator clips connected to the main wires of the electrical cord with insulation at the connection point, a switch in the middle and terminals at the other end is connected to the electrical contacts of the fuel pump and securely insulated with insulating tape.

Thanks to this power cord, the pump motor can receive electricity from both the power supply and a 12-volt battery and can be used to pump a wide variety of liquids. That is, we have a universal pump both in terms of the power source and the functions it performs (pumped liquids).

Using such a pump, you can pump various fuels (gasoline, diesel fuel) from a canister or other container into the fuel tank of a car and vice versa. You can also suck out used motor oil from the engine lubrication system without placing the machine on a pit or lift and the need to unscrew the drain plug. In this case, we use a car battery as a power source.

    An inlet filter must be installed at the inlet of the fuel pump. Any small speck will cause the pump to jam. It is still capable of pumping gasoline and diesel fuel, but oil, especially used oil, is a big question mark. Most likely, it will only be enough for one pumping. Frozen waste will also jam it if you don’t wash it with gasoline.

    A 12 volt power supply should have more power, I tried 1.5 A, it was not enough...
