Hard drive - last chance

One day the time comes and, despite all our tricks, the hard drive dies. There are a lot of utilities that allow you to extract data from a half-dead hard drive, but what to do when it stops being readable altogether. The other day I had to remember one not new, but interesting, and in some cases the simplest and most effective recipe for the “last attempt” to fish out data from a dead device, which I will remind some of, and will reveal to others as an innovation - this is not the consequences of April Fools madness, despite the unusual approach.

More recently, Habré discussed a way to restore motherboards and video cards by heating them. Here everything is the other way around.

This recipe should be used only when the hard drive is really dead, and you can’t imagine any other way to restore it.

So here's what you can do as a last-ditch attempt to recover your data.

1. Remove your hard drive from your computer.
2. Place the hard drive in a special bag for freezing (buy a good, expensive bag for this purpose, they also have a tight clasp).
3. Now put it inside another bag. As in photo No. 1.
4.After this, it must be placed in the coldest place of the freezer.
5. Leave it in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours. (See photo #2).
6. Now, after cooling, immediately insert it into the computer while it is cold and start recovering data. Start doing this with the data that is most important to you.
7. After some time, the error may occur again. When this happens, mark for yourself from which point you should continue and repeat the procedure - again a disk in 2 bags and 12 hours of refrigerator.
8. This procedure should be repeated as many times as necessary to save your data.

This is such an original way. They explained it to him in physics at school.
Well, in general, the most important thing is to make backup copies of your most important data and sleep peacefully and work with pleasure!

Does this help if the magnetic head gets stuck?

If you don’t succeed the first time, then you need to wash your feet, brush your teeth and roll back over your left shoulder three times.

Did not help. It hums, jerks its heads and the system does not recognize it.

Isn’t it easier in this case to leave the disk in the freezer until the information is completely removed (the cable should be enough)

This is how my first 10GB device worked. I lived on it like this for six months, but in addition to freezing it, I also had to hang it diagonally)))

This will work in literally a couple of percent of malfunction cases. In all others, every second of turning on the screw after diagnosing a failure leads to more and more data destruction. The final one.

If a mechanical breakdown occurs, the more the hard drive works, the more information is lost forever.
If something is logical, sometimes the effect is the same. Like ransomware viruses, turn off your computer as quickly as possible. Therefore, think calmly about what and how to do.

If you lose valuable information two or three times, learn make and CHECK backups....

But it’s still better to know the master’s coordinates. An archive of digital photos for 5-10 years with all the “memory” sometimes costs more than 5-50k rubles, which can be charged for restoration...

Complete crap, don't fall for this nonsense!! The disk controller will burn out from condensation, and the computer will also burn out from a short circuit!

Never do this. You will kill the data completely. As the disk warms up, condensation occurs. This completely kills the data and the disk.
