How to make a silicone gasket for any container
In the household, it is often necessary to tightly close the container with a lid, and even heat the contents to the boiling point and steam formation. Over time, the rubber gasket becomes unusable and needs to be replaced. Moreover, it must withstand high temperatures and high pressure.
To ensure the tightness of household vessels, we should prepare the following materials and items:
Typically, containers used in everyday life could still serve, but rubber gaskets fail, which can no longer be bought in the store. But today this problem can be solved simply: rubber can be replaced with silicone.
We remove the old rubber gasket, clean and wipe the circular groove dry and, using a gun, squeeze out the silicone in a continuous and uniform rope, trying to ensure that there is no air left under it.
Then use a rubber spatula to smooth out the silicone mass, simultaneously pressing it into the gutter and creating a slight slope towards the edge of the lid.At the end, remove excess silicone with the same spatula.
After a week, the silicone will dry completely, adhere firmly to the gutter and acquire elasticity, which will ensure tightness at high temperature and pressure.

Three practical tips
- Accumulated gas is usually removed from such vessels through a gas outlet tube. For convenience and to ensure reliability, we drill a through hole in the cover and insert a valve from a tubeless tire into it. It is convenient to attach the tube to it when needed, and remove it when not needed.
- If the standard device for ensuring the tightness of the lid does not work, it can be replaced with a simple clamp, which is a wooden block of the required height with a blind hole on top. We insert a bolt with a nut into the hole, the head of which rests against the nut.
When the nut is rotated towards the block, the bolt rises, rests against the choke and presses on the block, which presses the lid to the neck of the vessel and ensures a tight closure. - If there is silicone left in the tip, it will definitely harden and it will not be possible to squeeze the sealant out of the cartridge. To prevent this from happening, coat the nose of the tip with plasticine. Before use, remove the plasticine and the silicone is easily squeezed out of the cartridge.
