In the 21st century, there is no need to carry a spare tire, jack and pump with you - tire sealant
If a tubeless tire punctures, you can quickly repair the wheel without installing a spare tire. For this purpose, special aerosol emergency sealants in the form of foam are used. If the tire is punctured in the tread area, but does not have a side cut or has not moved away from the rim, then this product can eliminate a puncture with a diameter of up to 4.5 mm. In this case, the aerosol itself pumps up the wheel.
How does aerosol sealant work?
The product in the form of foam fills the inner cavity of the wheel, slightly increases the pressure in it, and, pressing through the puncture, glues the damage. The composition hardens on the inner cavity of the tire, but does not stain the disk itself. Its use according to the instructions eliminates wheel imbalance.
How to use sealant
The sealant bottle is connected via a filling hose to the wheel valve. Before this, you need to bleed off the remaining air in the tire, if any, and shake the cylinder. The spool is not removable. A button is pressed on the can, and the composition is pumped into the wheel independently due to pressure.
You need to immediately drive a car for 3 km at a speed of 20-30 km/h before the sealant hardens in the tire.In this case, it is impossible to pump up air with a pump. The pressure created in the tire is enough to prevent damage to the wheel when driving, but not too much to force all the sealant through the puncture. When driving, the remaining repair compound is evenly distributed around the perimeter of the tire and hardens, so it does not disturb the balance of the wheel.
After driving 3 km, you can stop and use a pump or compressor to pump up the pressure in the tire to normal, since it will be less than in the other wheels. Further, manufacturers of such sealants recommend immediately going to a tire shop for repairs, but in practice, if the air is not bleed, then you can drive as is.
The use of sealant does not harm the wheel in any way. The product does not damage the disc from the inside, since it hardens only on the tire, as it is spread around its circumference under the influence of centrifugal force. After the sealant is applied, the spool begins to leak air worse during pumping, but replacing it will cost a pittance. By repairing tires this way, you don’t have to get a jack, spare tire, remove the wheel, get dirty and waste time. You just need to spend a couple of minutes pumping the sealant, drive 3 km slowly, and then pump up the pressure to normal. This is much easier than replacing a wheel.
