How to unscrew the eccentric of a mixer

Anyone who has ever changed a bathroom faucet from an old one to a new one has probably encountered a problem: how to unscrew the faucet eccentric and replace it with another one. It’s certainly not a tricky thing, take it and twist it, but with the wrong approach, especially without the proper experience, there is a high probability of breaking something. And to avoid this, I will show you how to do it correctly.

The eccentric adapters have shifted and do not always have edges for an adjustable wrench. In my case, the neck of the adapter is smooth.

But even if you have turnkey edges on the eccentric, do not think that this method will not be useful to you, since these edges lick very well and the key turns.

Over many years, threaded connections stick well to each other, especially in hot water, and you can’t just unscrew everything.

Unscrew the mixer eccentric

In all eccentrics the hole inside is not round, it is rectangular. Which is designed for a special tool. Of course, I don’t have one, and you certainly won’t have one either.

Therefore, we will need two adjustable wrenches.

We insert one into the rectangular hole, with the fixed jaw of the key in the groove. Everything should fit snugly.Next, we rotate the worm so that its movable sponge attracts. The result should be a reliable grip.

We take the second adjustable wrench and adjust it to the width of the first wrench. We put his second key on the first one to create a lever for rotation.

If you do everything correctly, then there will be no unnecessary swings or beats.

Then, holding both keys, turn the connection with force. The eccentric should give in and come out.

Eventually the connection should work out.

This method has saved me more than once, so I recommend adopting this method.

Of course, you can change the mixer and keep the eccentrics from the old one, but the fact is that they are not always suitable. That's why you have to push yourself sometimes.

Bye everyone!

I used a file without a handle for this, the thin end (where the handle should be) fit perfectly. The file was twisted with pliers.

I once unscrewed it with an adjustable key, but instead of a second key I inserted a screwdriver into the eyelet on the handle.

The simplest thing is to insert one half of the jaws of the pliers into the eccentric. And between the pressure parts of the pliers, insert any key, rod, etc. of suitable length.
If it doesn’t help, then go to a good welder and he will make you a workpiece for a special key in 10 minutes. But you will have to process it yourself using an emery stone. Another 10 minutes of work. This is exactly what I had to do to unscrew the Soviet faucet. But new, imported, everything is done with a spanner. Capitalists are not fools.
