Device for cutting plastic bottles into strips

Device for cutting plastic bottles into strips

A plastic bottle is probably the most common material for crafts. Brushes and brooms made from such bottles are especially popular.
To make a brush or tassel, you first need to cut a plastic bottle into strips. The process is very labor-intensive if done manually.
I suggest you make a simple device for cutting bottles into ribbons.

Will need

  • Wooden block.
  • A couple of nails.
  • Blade from a stationery knife.

Making a device for cutting plastic bottles

We take a wooden block.

Let's draw it in the middle.

We cut with a hacksaw along the drawn mark. The bottle will be placed on this groove.

Then we mark the longitudinal lines. The blade will be installed in them. To be able to cut the bottle into noodles of different widths, we make several grooves for installing the blade.

We make a cut in depth to the width of the blade from a stationery knife.

We sand all the grooves with sandpaper.

We hammer in two nails and bend them. Like this:

We insert the blade into the desired groove and secure it with nails.

We cut off the bottom of a plastic bottle and put it on our new device. We cut the bottle into a ribbon.

Indeed, probably the simplest, and at the same time safest bottle cutter. Thanks for the idea!

The idea is good, but what is the point of using it?

The most important thing is not shown. The author spent a long time chewing on how to make slits, but did not show the cutting process itself. How to put a bottle on, how to make a cut.

I also liked it, of all that I have seen, this option is perhaps the best.

I didn’t see the main thing: how the knife stands in the block, how it cuts

Neither the description nor the video shows how the cutting process begins.
And due to which the cutting occurs in a spiral (if I understand correctly).
