Fluffy pompom wreath

Late fall. Now is the time to knit warm socks, fluffy scarves or make New Year's, winter-style, festive and cozy ones. crafts. Today I invite you to make a soft wreath with me from white pompoms and balls. This wreath will decorate your door (but not the outside one), or will be a lovely decoration for a table candle. It can serve as a Christmas gift for a loved one. And finally, it itself is an elegant decoration for the living room.

Materials and execution
Ready-made foam rings are best suited for making wreaths. They are bought in craft stores. These rings are light, durable, and they perfectly hold everything that decorators wrap and glue on them. Please do not confuse foam rings for crafts with floral sponge rings. Florists have a green sponge, but we need a pure white ring. Unfortunately, I only managed to buy one ring and I have already used it for another, crocheted wreath, which I will post soon. I will make the “pompon” wreath the old fashioned way - on a cardboard base. Here she is. This is a cardboard ring the size of a saucepan lid (it served as a template due to the lack of a compass).

The cardboard ring should be wrapped with synthetic padding tape; however, any white fluffy material is suitable for this: cotton wool, white fluffy threads, felt, fabric. This winding will serve as the basis for gluing white balls and pom-poms.

cover with cotton wool

Pompoms are prepared the day before in large quantities. They can be quite large in diameter - up to 3 cm, but they can also be very small - up to 0.5 cm. The texture of balls and pom-poms can also be different, the main thing is that they are all white and more or less round.

glue pompoms

Our wreath uses:
• pom-poms made by hand (I will describe an easy way below);
• cotton balls from the pharmacy;
• plush pom-poms from a craft store;
• foam decorative beads and balls;
• curly cotton wool for winter decoration of premises.

Preparing pompoms - quickly and easily
Pompoms are made in a simplified and quick way. Making several dozen pom-poms and pom-poms of different sizes in the traditional way (using two rings) is difficult and time-consuming. We will simply wrap fluffy knitting threads, about the thickness of a sausage, around two or even all four legs of the chair. In the same way as a sausage, we will tie the yarn at a distance of 5 cm. In total, we will get about 18-40 constrictions, depending on how many legs to wind the yarn. This fluffy “sausage” is removed from the chair legs and cut with scissors between the strings. You get quite decent pom-poms, which all you have to do is fluff them up. The more often you tighten the strings, the smaller the pompoms will be. Let's prepare 60 pieces, and you can start gluing fluffy balls onto the wreath.

Gluing the balloons to the wreath
At first, you can stick to a certain system, and then simply fill the empty spaces on the base with balls and pom-poms. The balls need to be glued using thick PVA glue.Some pom poms don't want to stick together, but this can be easily fixed by securing them with head pins. We will fill the gaps between the pom-poms, which remain despite the rather tight gluing, with foam balls, dipping each of them in glue and pressing tightly to the base. They adhere well to any material. To get the texture of a real snowdrift, it is recommended to fill even the smallest gaps with curly decorative cotton wool - it gives the composition an airy softness. There is no need to glue the cotton wool: on a fleecy basis, it sticks perfectly without glue. Now our wreath looks like a snow cloud. We leave it to dry overnight, and in the morning we remove the pins and experiment with other decorative elements.

the wreath is ready

All my variations are collected here: combinations “white-white”, “white-red” and “white-red-red”. (pictures) This is a matter of taste. You will definitely end up with something special, absolutely amazing! Want to try?
